Galaxy Buds App Code Points to Reversal of Samsung's Overheating Advice
Code in a new Galaxy Buds app release suggests Samsung will soon tell users to put overheating earbuds back in the charging case to cool down, contradicting years of official support guidance.
The updated in-app advice says overheated earbuds will now power off automatically for safety. That differs from the earlier behavior described in the app, in which the earbuds kept beeping while remaining active. Samsung's existing support documentation warns users against returning hot earbuds to the case, a precaution aimed at avoiding further heat buildup around the battery and charging contacts.
Android Authority reported that the shift may indicate newer Galaxy Buds models could ship with upgraded battery management circuitry capable of halting charging current during thermal spikes. Until Samsung updates its official support documents, the outlet noted, allowing hot earbuds to cool in open air remains the safest course of action for users.
Samsung has not commented publicly on the app code, and no change to the company's published support pages has been confirmed. Samsung's wireless earbuds lineup has expanded considerably over the years, most recently with models such as the Galaxy Buds On. Battery-powered electronics worn inside the ear canal require thermal management precautions regardless of the charging behavior described in an app.
The finding comes from an app teardown rather than an official Samsung announcement, and the instructions exist in code that has not yet been reflected in the company's public guidance. Buyers of current Galaxy Buds models would see no change in behavior until both the app and the earbuds' firmware support the new thermal response.
