The user, identified on Reddit as Jabbadava, recently reported that the phone suffered from 'severe battery drain' and 'overheating,' even when it was idle. The post's title mentioned One UI 9 and made the recent beta rollout for the Galaxy S25 series appear to be the likely culprit, Android Authority reported. That impression fit a common pattern: when a phone starts running hot or losing charge quickly, the newest software update often gets the blame.

But a closer look at the Galaxy S25 FE's behavior pointed elsewhere. Android Authority reported that the investigation revealed a WhatsApp background service was malfunctioning. That finding still did not put WhatsApp itself at fault. According to the report, the conflict arose from two different instances of Google Play Services running on the device.

One of those instances was tied to MicroG, an unofficial spoofer used to run modded YouTube apps such as ReVanced. The presence of two Play Services instances created the conditions for the background problem, the report said, rather than a defect in WhatsApp or a direct flaw in One UI.

The report did not say whether the user resolved the drain after identifying the MicroG-linked Play Services instance. Android Authority noted that blaming the latest software updates for poor device performance is often easy, but it may not always be the correct explanation.
