Galaxy S27 leaks show stagnant design, while S26 beta brings AI features from Fold 8

Leaked renders indicate Samsung's base Galaxy S27 will retain a familiar design, while the Galaxy S26 series gains new AI features in the latest One UI 9 beta.

The leaked Galaxy S27 renders, shared by OnLeaks, show a phone that looks nearly identical to the Galaxy S26, with the same flat display, rounded corners, and raised camera island. Dimensions reportedly stay largely the same, varying by only about half a millimeter. The leak follows earlier renders of the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which suggested a shift to an iPhone-like horizontal camera plateau. However, the base model is not expected to follow that route, and the renders indicate Samsung is continuing its trend of minimal changes to the smaller flagship.

Samsung has made only incremental design tweaks to the base Galaxy S series over the past several generations. The Galaxy S23 dropped the contour cut camera design for three individual rings, the S24 kept that design, the S25 slightly enlarged the rings, and the S26 added a raised camera island around the same three cameras. Now the S27 appears to be nearly unchanged from the S26, marking five generations with essentially the same design language. In contrast, the Ultra line has received features like a 200MP main camera, anti-reflective display, Privacy Display, and a potential complete redesign with the S27 Ultra.

The business logic may explain Samsung's approach. A recent report indicated the Galaxy S26 Ultra became the first Android flagship in around a decade to break into the top five best-selling smartphones globally in a quarter. With buyers willing to spend more on the Ultra, Samsung has little incentive to make the base model dramatically more exciting.

Separately, Samsung rolled out One UI 9 Beta 7 to the Galaxy S26 series, with a changelog entry mentioning "new AI features" without specifics. Digging into the update revealed several additions: My FanCam video re-framing, Call Brief overlay, Custom Cards in Now Brief, and unified Finder and Google Search widgets on the home screen. These features were originally introduced with the Galaxy Z8 foldables and were also made available to the Galaxy S26 FE. They are expected to reach the Galaxy S26 series with the stable update.
