Garmin Connect IQ Store Sees 'Enormous Influx' of Submissions, Review Backlog
Garmin Connect IQ store sees 'enormous influx' of submissions and review delays up to 13 days; AI content blamed.
A Garmin Connect IQ moderator or representative identified as Brandon wrote in a forum thread that the delays were not caused by a bug. "We have gotten an enormous influx of app submissions in the last month, with no signs of slowing down, and are working through approvals as quickly as we can," Brandon said, according to TechRadar. He added that this had never been a problem in the past, except for possible delays around long holiday weekends such as Christmas.
Developers say the review process typically takes one to two days but is now taking up to 13 days, TechRadar reported. The backlog covers apps and watch faces submitted to the store, where developers are charged $100 annually to sell apps.
In forum responses cited by TechRadar, users tied the wave to low-effort, repetitive AI-generated products. One user urged Garmin to limit upload frequency for each developer, saying poorly made AI-generated watch faces would "consume everything." Another said the Connect IQ Store was increasingly flooded with "low-effort, repetitive submissions that hurt discoverability, degrade user trust, and crowd out well-crafted apps."
TechRadar reported that the sudden nature of the problem points to AI, with the store likely flooded by vibe-coded or AI-generated products designed to make a quick buck by filling the digital marketplace. The report compared the situation with AI-generated e-books that were flooding Kindle Unlimited as far back as 2023, making it harder for users to find new books.
TechRadar said the flood is bad for developers, who pay the annual fee, and for Garmin users, who may have to wade through a sea of AI slop watch faces to find faces and apps created by real Garmin users with human-led, thought-out complications. TechRadar said it had contacted Garmin for comment and would update its article if it received a response. It also asked Connect IQ users who had noticed the change to comment.
