Gemini for Home update adds combined voice commands and fixes bugs; user can’t shake ‘Fish Lemon’ nickname

The report says the biggest change is that Gemini can now understand a broader range of voice commands across media and device controls. Users can say things like “Turn off the lights and stop the music” or “Skip this song and turn on the backyard lights,” and the assistant will act on both parts instead of returning an error. Previously, such two-part commands were a notable gap compared with the original Google Assistant.

Google also confirmed two bug fixes in the update. Commands for setting alarms and adding items to Google Keep lists through Google Home, which had recently been failing for some users, should now work as intended.

For users who create automations, Google Home now sorts automation starters, conditions, and actions alphabetically in the automation editor, making device capabilities easier to find. The assistant also now respects visibility restrictions set in third-party apps, so private routines created there will no longer appear in the Google Home automation list.

In a separate episode covered by Android Authority, one Google Home user says Gemini gave them an unwanted nickname. In a post on the r/googlehome subreddit, user nynexman4464 said that after asking a cooking question about fish, Google Home responded, “OK, from now on I’ll call you fish lemon.” The user laughed it off, but the assistant apparently kept using “Fish Lemon” in reminders and on a smart display. Attempts to change the nickname have only worked temporarily, and other Reddit users in the thread offered little sympathy.
