Gemini smart home control issues spread to Android Auto, users say

Android Auto users say Gemini no longer controls smart home devices, after similar Wear OS issues.

The Wear OS complaints came in recent weeks. Users said Gemini would claim it had controlled lights, AC units and other devices when nothing actually happened. Google later said that issue had been fixed, according to Android Authority.

It is not clear whether the Android Auto problem is related to the Wear OS issue. In a post on the r/AndroidAuto subreddit earlier today, one user said Gemini had stopped executing commands such as turning on the AC. Instead, the user said, Gemini now responds that it "cannot control smart home devices through Google Maps while driving." The poster said the feature had been working for months before the change.

Android Authority said some Android Auto users are now finding that Gemini refuses to control their smart home devices even though those same commands worked previously. Google has not publicly commented on the Android Auto reports. The company had said the earlier Wear OS smart home control issue was fixed.

The Android Auto complaints were reported on Sept. 18, 2026. The cause of the problem remains unclear, and it is not known whether Google will address the reports.
