Ghost unveils $3,499 Core personal AI computer as first batch sells out

Ghost has launched Core, a $3,499 personal AI computer that runs large language models entirely on-device and sold out its first preorder batch on day one, according to TechRadar.

Core is an unassuming black box built around an Nvidia RTX Pro 4000 Blackwell graphics card with 24GB of video RAM, paired with 64GB of DDR5 system RAM. Its rated AI performance is 770 TOPS. Ghost says the PC comes with three AI models pre-installed: Qwen-3.8-Next, Qwen-3.8-27B, and Gemma-4-31B. Users can also run their own models. The selling point, according to Ghost and Javaid, is that the system includes software built specifically for running those pre-installed AIs, removing the effort of model configuration. Core updates its models automatically as new upgrades emerge, unless the user does not want that, in a system Javaid described as similar to how Tesla works with over-the-air updates. Users interact with the PC through an app on a phone or laptop and can issue voice commands.

Javaid said: 'You can run [AI] models on existing hardware, but it's a terrible experience on many levels.' He described Core as a 'brain in a box.' Ghost raised $11 million in funding, according to TechRadar.

Privacy is the other central pitch. Ghost says Core connects to apps, files, devices, smart-home gadgets, fitness watches, and personal health data, builds context on a user's life over time, and works continuously to help rather than only when asked. All data stays on the device, according to the company, and is encrypted so that even Ghost cannot access it. The device is designed to keep running even if Ghost were to shut down, and there is no subscription fee. Javaid said: 'All of the source code, logic, and model weights live on the device, not the services. We build this device to not be dependent on having an outside entity maintaining the service.' A firewall limits how any agent can use credentials such as passwords and monitors outgoing requests. Javaid said that if the firewall sees an agent performing a sanctioned action or exfiltrating data it should not, it rejects the request and flags it for user review. Users can also dictate how much autonomy Core agents are allowed.

Core is priced at $3,499 in the US, or around £2,600 / AU$5,000. The first batch of pre-orders sold out on the first day they were offered, and those devices ship at the end of this month. Ghost is now taking registrations of interest for a second batch that is coming off the production line. TechRadar reported that exactly how useful the system will be remains to be seen and may depend on how extensively a user has adopted connected gadgets and technology.

Editor's Summary Ghost's Core is a $3,499 on-device AI computer that sold out its first preorder batch and ships this month. It uses Nvidia hardware, pre-installed models, encrypted local data, and a no-subscription design to appeal to users who want private AI agents without cloud dependence. The launch also tests whether a dedicated, tightly integrated AI box can justify its price against high-memory Mac mini or Mac Studio alternatives.
