GL.iNet Beryl 7 travel router earns praise in TechRadar review for keeping family devices connected
TechRadar praised GL.iNet's Beryl 7 travel router for its portable design, USB-C power and fast VPN throughput after it kept five iPads, a laptop and phones connected on holiday.
The review, published Sept. 8, said the router combines portability, weight, features and price. It is priced at $130 / £117 and weighs 205 grams. It can be powered through a USB-C connection, and comes with dual 2.5GbE ports, a USB 3.0 port and foldable antennas.
TechRadar noted that the Beryl 7 can run a VPN at speeds up to 1,100 Mbps and can turn hotel or guest Wi-Fi into a private network for multiple devices, avoiding repeated logins. The reviewer said connecting once and keeping all devices on a known, saved network simplified travel and eliminated the need to reconnect at every stop.
The device lacks support for a 320MHz channel and has no display for settings adjustments. The reviewer described the plastic shell as feeling "cheap" and said a drop could crack it. USB file transfers were measured at only up to 70Mbps.
Availability was noted as direct from GL.iNet or online retailers such as Amazon, where the price has been seen near $100. The mint green colorway was called "striking." The review said that for users who want a "set and forget" travel router without frequent settings changes, the Beryl 7 may be a suitable addition to a tech bag.
