Gmail Live AI Search Rolls Out for Google AI Subscribers
Gmail Live conversational inbox search launched for AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers, plus Docs Live and Keep Live.
Gmail Live is designed to surface details buried in email threads without requiring users to dig through messages. Google says users can ask questions such as "What's my flight's gate number?" or "What's going on at my kid's school this week?" and the feature will scan the inbox and return answers. According to Engadget, it resembles the live voice chats available with the Gemini chatbot but is customized for apps including Gmail, Docs and Drive, each of which gets its own version. The feature had been announced at Google I/O last month and is now out of beta.
The rollout extends the voice-based approach to documents and notes. Docs Live lets users tell Gemini what kind of document they want and pulls relevant details from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the broader web. It then structures the document to produce a first draft and can help refine the user's tone. Keep Live is intended to turn informal thoughts into organized notes. Google says it captures, structures and refines ideas into organized, actionable notes, processing voice commands in the background so users can turn thoughts into structured lists and notes without typing.
In an example video, Google shows a person saying, "I promised my son I would paint his room this weekend... I'm going to need a list of instructions as well as supplies." Keep Live responds, "Preparing your painting note now," and generates a shopping list and how-to guide.
The new features are rolling out this week in Gmail and Keep, but only for Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers. Docs Live is limited to Pro and Ultra subscribers. Google says all of the features are "coming soon" for Google Workspace business customers.
