Google Adds Live Avatar to Gemini 3.8 Live for Enterprise Support

The Live Avatar combines real-time video generation with speech models, Android Authority reported. Users can talk with the model while the avatar responds on screen. The system can trigger tool calls and fetch data in the background as the conversation continues, the report said.

The Verge reported that the avatar can transition between the 97 languages it supports “without degrading video fidelity or introducing visual drift.” A video shared by Google showed a Live Avatar speaking in English and Japanese, with its mouth animation matching the spoken words in both languages. The avatar can also pull up information on screen while it talks.

Google will offer a library of preset avatars for customers, but it will also let organizations create their own, according to The Verge. Output from Live Avatar includes Google’s invisible SynthID watermark and safeguards intended to “respect identity,” the report said.

The launch comes about a week after Google revealed its new Gemini 3.8 Live model, which the company says “processes visual inputs in near real-time.” Android Authority reported that Google introduced new members of the Gemini 3.8 family last week, including Live and Live Extended Thinking.

Live Avatar is not a consumer product, according to Android Authority. The publication said users may encounter it the next time they talk to an agent bot. Google describes the avatars as designed to provide “engaging customer service” or “interactive walkthroughs” through “precise lip-syncing, natural expressions, and fluid turn-taking.”

Android Authority wrote that the update could change some users’ feelings about AI support bots because the avatar is meant to make automated agents feel more human. The feature’s current enterprise-only availability means that most consumers will not see it directly for now.
