Google adds voice recorder to Gemini Notebook for Android and iOS
Google adds voice recording to Gemini Notebook for Android and iOS, with offline limits and broken deletion reported.
The feature lets users record audio that is added to their notebook, the outlet reported. Users can open it by tapping the microphone icon in the Sources tab of a notebook or on the Gemini Notebook homepage. Tapping the icon on the homepage creates a new notebook.
Android Authority reported seeing the option in version 1.63.1002728510 of the Gemini Notebook app for Android, as well as in the iOS app. The outlet credited 9to5Google with reporting the rollout.
The recorder has limitations compared with Google’s Pixel Recorder app. Android Authority reported that the Gemini Notebook feature is almost useless when offline, and that file deletion appeared broken at the time of its report. Pixel Recorder, which debuted in 2019, was described by the outlet as the best voice recorder app on Android.
Android Authority also noted that Android manufacturers have launched their own recorder apps in the generative AI era. The Gemini Notebook rollout puts a recorder inside a note-taking and research tool, while the reported offline and deletion issues remained in the outlet’s test.
