Google app may get redesigned settings page and Search Live camera interface

Android Authority reports Google is working on a card-based settings page and a redesigned Search Live camera interface for the Google app, with no release date announced.

For the settings page, Android Authority said the Google app could switch from its current list layout to a card-based layout. Similar settings would be grouped into cards with labels such as 'Your App Experience' and 'Privacy & Safety.' The redesign is said to align more closely with Google's Material 3 Expressive design language.

The report also said the new settings screen could surface options that are currently buried, including 'Search personalization,' 'SafeSearch,' and 'Results about you.' These are now located inside the 'Privacy & Safety' section. The redesigned settings page differs from the redesign Android Authority previously spotted in Gemini, and it is unclear whether the difference is intentional or reflects an unresolved design approach across Google's apps.

Separately, Android Authority reported that Search Live in the Google app is in line for design tweaks. Search Live lets users get real-time answers through voice commands or a combination of voice and the phone's camera. Its current camera layout occupies the entire screen, which can make some interface elements hard to spot.

The proposed Search Live changes include the ability to minimize the camera window and move it around the page, according to the report. Google could also introduce new bubble animations when Search Live is active. The transcript button has disappeared in the redesigned interface shown in the teardown, but Android Authority said it is too soon to tell whether the button has been removed permanently or simply relocated.

Neither the settings redesign nor the Search Live redesign has been released, and Android Authority said there is no way to tell when either might arrive. The reports are based on evidence found in the latest version of the Google app, and the site said it will continue to track further changes.
