Google begins rolling out Continue activity cross-device hub on Android 17

Android Authority said it spotted a new “Continue activity” section rolling out through Google Play Services. It sits inside the existing Cross-device services menu alongside Call casting and Internet sharing. The section promises to let users “continue tasks and access apps, media, and notifications across your devices,” according to the report.

The rollout introduces controls for continuing tasks and apps while sharing notifications, files, and media across devices, Android Authority reported. It arrives through Play Services on Android 17, based on the version observed on the Pixel 9. The report described the rollout as landing just in time for the Googlebook launch.

According to Android Authority, Googlebooks are not going to be laptops meant to exist on their own. The more interesting part is expected to be what happens when a Googlebook is placed next to an Android phone, the report said. Google has spent months laying that groundwork, from Android 17’s Continue On task handoff to Play Services’ hooks for Googlebook setup and experiments that could turn a phone into a laptop trackpad.

The new Continue activity section is now starting to appear on phones, moving one part of that cross-device plan from preparation to a visible feature. It groups the ability to continue tasks and access apps, media, and notifications with existing Cross-device services tools such as Call casting and Internet sharing.
