Google Begins Rolling Out Health Guardian Features to Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5

Google is rolling out Health Guardian blood pressure and insulin resistance trends and sleep breathing metrics to Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5.

The two reports differ on the precise timing of the release. Engadget described the Google Health app rollout as beginning this week, with initial trend reports arriving in early October. Android Authority said the blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends and sleep breathing quality features are now available on Pixel Watch 3 and newer models.

According to Android Authority, Health Guardian is designed to detect trends from a wearer's health data and predict concerning physiologic changes such as hypertension, diabetes or sleep apnea. Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 owners can access the blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends and sleep breathing quality metrics at no additional cost, the report said.

In European countries, Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 5 owners also have access to Google's Breathing Emergency Detection tool. Engadget reported that the tool automatically contacts emergency services if the device observes a severe drop in blood oxygen. Android Authority said Breathing Emergency Detection has been available on Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 5 since launch, but only in limited European countries.

Fitbit Air owners with a Google Health Premium subscription will also gain access to insulin resistance and blood pressure trends later this year as part of their plans, Engadget reported, but a specific date has not been provided. Android Authority reported that Fitbit Air users will have to pay for the features. Neither report specified pricing or a full list of countries where the features are available.

Google announced Health Guardian at the launch of the Pixel Watch 5. Android Authority reported that Google promised to roll it out in the fall and is now delivering on that commitment. Engadget said the health tracking tools were not available at the time of its Pixel Watch 5 review, but the publication rated the smartwatch highly at launch and said the new tools should further increase the device's appeal if they work well.
