Google Buys Spirit Airlines Data for $10 Million to Train AI Models

Google has agreed to pay $10 million for anonymized data from defunct Spirit Airlines, including communications, bookings and employee records, to feed its AI models, CNN reported.

The disclosure came late Monday in a court filing related to Spirit's bankruptcy proceedings. The discount airline halted all operations in May and has been selling off remaining assets, including planes, equipment and real estate. The data sale includes emails and internal communications, spreadsheets, transactions with the public such as bookings and frequent-flyer information, and human resources data on employees.

The court filing said the data has been stripped of anything that would allow individuals to be identified. Still, the trove represents a substantial amount of useful intelligence for the AI company.
