Google Calendar adds block feature to stop unwanted meeting invites
Google Calendar is rolling out a feature that lets users block other people, automatically removing their events and invitations. The tool is available to Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers, starting Aug 18 with a phased rollout.
When a user is blocked, all current and future Calendar invitations from that person are removed, and the blocker will no longer receive new invitations from them. The tech giant said blocking someone in Calendar adds them to an account-wide block list, meaning the block applies across supported Google products. Conversely, if a user is blocked in another Google product such as Gmail, their Calendar invitations are also blocked.
Google said the feature is designed to block invitations from users with a Google account. For invitations that come from someone who does not use Calendar, the company recommends blocking that person in Gmail. That action prevents both emails and the creation of Calendar events by that user.
The feature is not available to everyone. It is limited to Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers. The rollout begins today but may take up to 15 days to reach all eligible users.
