Google Calendar Teardown Points to Per-Calendar Default Event Lengths

Android Authority says a teardown of Google Calendar for Android shows code for setting separate default event lengths on each calendar, replacing the current account-wide option. Google has not announced the change.

The evidence comes from version 2026.38.0-989268529-release of Google Calendar for Android. Android Authority said it found the app being readied to move the default event length option out of a single global setting and into the settings for each separate calendar. Under the current design, the default length a user picks applies to every calendar tied to the account, and Google synchronizes that choice across devices and platforms.

The existing setting already allows users to shorten or lengthen the starting duration assigned to a new event. Someone who books mostly 15-minute meetings can make that the default, while a user whose schedule is dominated by hour-long blocks can set that instead, saving the step of editing the time field every time an event is created. The events themselves are still created the same way, with the user filling in title, location and other details.

Android Authority argued that per-calendar defaults address a common pattern among people who keep more than one calendar. A work calendar, for instance, might be filled mostly with short meetings, while a personal calendar could hold longer events such as children's activities. Splitting the setting by calendar would let each schedule start from a length that fits its typical use.

If the change is released as the teardown suggests, per-calendar control would become the only way to set a default event length, and the account-wide option would disappear, the publication said. The report is based on code found in an app build rather than an announcement from Google, and there is no confirmation that the feature will reach users or when that might happen. Google has not publicly commented on the finding.

App teardowns frequently surface features that are tested internally and later altered or dropped before release, so the per-calendar setting described here remains unconfirmed until Google ships it or says otherwise.

Editor's Summary

Android Authority reported that a teardown of Google Calendar for Android shows work on per-calendar default event lengths, which would replace the single account-wide default now in use. The change would let work and personal calendars start new events at different durations. It is unconfirmed, appears only in an app build, and Google has not announced it.
