The option was spotted by X user Leopeva64 under the side panel's "Add attachments" menu. Android Authority said it checked Chrome on its own laptop and saw the option there as well.

Android Authority reports that Gemini has steadily worked its way into Google's ecosystem, appearing across Google apps, on Android phones, and alongside browser activity in Chrome. Despite that deep integration, the Chrome side panel had lacked a basic file-upload feature until now.

The publication described the new capability as useful but late, noting that Microsoft Edge's Copilot sidebar has supported file uploads for years.
