Google Confirms Fix in Progress for Google Photos Bug That Locks Share, Edit and Delete Buttons

The problem appears inside the app's editor. After a user makes a change to an image, such as cropping it, every button in the bottom row of the editor stops responding. The user cannot return to apply a second edit, and cannot share the file, add it to an album, or delete it. Those four actions are the ones that become unusable, Android Authority reported.

Android Authority first reported the bug at the end of last week, saying an influx of users were running into it. The publication has since received an update on the situation, and Google has confirmed the bug and said it is fixing the issue.

While the fix is being prepared, Google has offered workarounds to affected users, according to Android Authority. The report did not include a timeline for when the fix will reach the app.

Under normal conditions, the editor is built to handle more than one task in succession. A user can make changes to a photo through the editor and then choose to share the file, add it to an album, or delete it, without any of those actions blocking the others. The current bug breaks that sequence, leaving users stuck at the point where they have finished an edit and want to do something with the result.

For now, the issue affects anyone who edits a photo in Google Photos and then tries to act on it again, whether the goal is a second round of edits, sending the image to someone, filing it in an album, or removing it from the library.
