Google Confirms RCS Delivery Bug, Says Fix Is Rolling Out

Google confirms an RCS delivery bug affecting some Messages users and says a fix is rolling out over the coming weeks.

A Google spokesperson told Android Authority that the company is aware of the issue and has begun distributing a fix. "We are aware of a bug affecting a subset of Google Messages users that can lead to disrupted RCS message delivery," the spokesperson said. "We are rolling out a fix that will reach everyone over the coming weeks. Please ensure you stay up to date with the most recent version of Google Messages."

The problem centered on RCS media attachments failing to send, according to complaints from Google Messages users. RCS has been a major upgrade from SMS and MMS in Google Messages, enabling features and enhancements across the messaging experience. The bug has interrupted that experience for affected users.

Google's statement did not specify how many users are affected or what caused the bug. The company said the fix will reach everyone over the coming weeks, meaning some users may wait before it arrives on their devices. For those already dealing with failed deliveries, that rollout timeline may not provide immediate relief.

Users who want the fix as soon as possible should make sure their Play Store is configured to install new updates when they become available, Google noted. Keeping Google Messages updated is also advised.

Android Authority reported the company's statement. Google's confirmation and pending fix follow the earlier user complaints about RCS media attachments failing to come through.
