Google Contacts Lets Users Share Custom Calling Cards Through vCard Files
Google Contacts now lets users include their custom Calling Card when creating .vcf files, and adds an archived view of previously stored personal info, Android Authority reports.
The change appears in Google Contacts version 4.88.28.981523105 and has been spotted on multiple devices running that build. When a user creates a .vcf file, the app now lists Calling Card data among the items that can be included or left out. vCards were built for quick exchange of contact details, which makes Calling Card customizations a natural fit for the format.
Google gave Contacts Calling Cards support last year, allowing users to set a card that others see when they open their contact entry, but sharing options took longer to arrive. Earlier this month, Android Authority reported that Google was working on another way to share custom Calling Cards, and the vCard route now appears to be going live.
The same release adds a "View archived info" option under contact settings. It keeps a record of information a user previously included in "Your info," so earlier entries remain available after they are edited or removed.
Separately, Google's support documentation for Calling Card effects describes adjusting photo position and scale, or adding an effect by tapping Effects. The app itself currently offers nothing comparable to a photo filter, and archived copies of the help page show that wording has been in place for more than a year, the report said. Whether Google plans to ship such a feature has not been confirmed.
