Android Authority, in an Authority Insights story, said Google is working on a third option for Calling Card sharing. Google introduced Calling Cards to the Contacts app last year, giving Android users a chance to make their calls more personalized. The current feature is limited to a user’s contacts or to anyone who has saved the user as a contact, because users likely do not want their image shown to random strangers.

The reported third option would expand that reach. According to Android Authority, it would let users share their Calling Card with new people without having to call them first. The method would involve adding Calling Card images to VCF files. The recipient would need the Google Contacts app installed to import the Calling Card data, so the VCF file alone would not deliver the full Calling Card experience described in the report.

Android Authority did not provide a release timeline or say whether the feature would definitely reach users. The publication described the finding as part of its Authority Insights coverage, which includes exclusive reports, app teardowns and leaks. The report presents the VCF sharing method as a possible upcoming addition to Google Contacts, not as a feature Google has announced.

The reported capability centers on sharing a Calling Card before a call is placed. Under the existing limits, a user’s Calling Card is visible only to people already connected to the user through contacts. The new option, if released, would address a different scenario: giving someone access to the visual card as part of a contact file, while still requiring that person to use Google Contacts.
