Google Delays Gemini Skills Rollout for Workspace Users
Google delayed Gemini skills for Workspace users beyond October 13, citing safe enterprise access. No new date set.
Google said the rollout is on hold to ensure “safe and reliable” access for every enterprise user. It has not specified a new rollout date. The company removed previous mentions of the release from its Workspace release calendar and said it will share an update when a timeline is confirmed.
The delay comes after Google confirmed last month that it plans to sunset Gemini’s usage-specific Gems and replace them with skills. Skills are intended to be easier to set up, access, and invoke in any conversation, and they do not force users into an isolated environment as Gems did.
Google had already started bringing skills to Gmail users, including those on Gemini’s free tiers. For enterprise users, however, Google set a later rollout date. That date has now been pushed back, leaving Workspace users without the scheduled October 13 release.
Earlier, Google had promised that skills would start rolling out in the Gemini app for all Workspace users on October 13. The company has not added a new date and says it will share a new timeline as soon as it is confirmed.
