Google expands AI Overviews with 'Ask anything' prompts on desktop Search

Google now shows expanded AI Overviews with 'Ask anything' boxes on desktop Search, guiding users to AI Mode.

The unannounced change was flagged by Chris Long, co-founder of SEO agency Nectiv, on X and picked up by WinFuture. Android Authority reported that certain search terms now return results beginning with a full AI Overview answer that occupies considerable screen space, followed by the "Ask anything" box inviting users to type follow-up questions and launch an AI Mode interaction, keeping them within Google's ecosystem rather than scrolling to the websites the information is sourced from.

Previously, such text boxes only appeared after clicking "Show more" at the bottom of an AI Overview. The expanded layout is the latest step in Google's effort to make AI Mode a more prominent part of Search.
