Google Expands Fix for Missing Android Auto Signal Bars
Google is widening a fix that restores the missing network signal icon in Android Auto, months after an update removed it, Android Authority reports. Some drivers have seen the icon return, but a full rollout may take weeks.
Over the past few days, multiple users on Reddit have reported that the network icon is back on their in-car displays, Android Authority reported. The return has been described as coming as mysteriously as the icon disappeared. Drivers with different vehicle infotainment setups and phone models are seeing the familiar status indicator rejoin the battery and Wi-Fi icons in the status bar.
The fix appears to rely on a mix of app updates and server-side flags, according to Android Authority. As a result, a full rollout across all devices may still take weeks.
For drivers affected by the bug, the missing icon meant they could not glance at their car screen to check whether their phone had reception. Android Auto's status bar normally shows battery and Wi-Fi indicators alongside the network signal icon. When the network icon vanished, that part of the interface no longer offered the same at-a-glance information.
Android Authority reported that the issue began when an update removed the icon. The fix is now reaching more users, though availability may vary by device, vehicle setup, and server-side configuration. Reports from Reddit indicate that the restore is not limited to a single phone model or infotainment system. The rollout is continuing, and users who have not yet seen the icon return may need to wait as app updates and server-side changes reach their devices.
