Google Expands Notebooks in Gemini to Workspace and Education Accounts
Google is bringing Notebooks in Gemini to Workspace and Education accounts, with admin controls and a new Play Books import option, though the feature remains unavailable in the EEA.
To make the feature available, both Gemini and Gemini Notebook must be enabled at the organization level, and Workspace admins must enable Gemini features at the organization level. Google had added Notebooks in Gemini as a direct shortcut in the main Gemini interface on the web before expanding it to Gemini mobile apps. The feature has since been available to all free and paid users with a Gmail account.
The expansion lets students, educators, and enterprise users organize their notes and any resources pulled from the internet using notebooks in Gemini, and create interactive learning material, reports, and slide decks with that information. The features had already been accessible to Workspace users through Gemini Notebook, previously known as NotebookLM, but access directly within Gemini reduces a few steps.
Along with the Workspace and Education rollout, Google is expanding the option to import books from Google Play Books into notebooks. That import option was rolled out for regular Google users last month. Google said the feature is currently not available to users in the European Economic Area because of regional restrictions on AI.
