Google Health 5.11 Expands Automatic Workout Detection to Over 100 Activities
Google Health 5.11 expands automatic workout detection on Pixel Watch and Fitbit devices from 10 to over 100 activities.
The update, which Android Authority reported was earlier covered by 9to5Google, brings automatic logging to exercises including strength training and swimming. It is available on Fitbit Air, Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, Pixel Watch 5 and the upcoming Fitbit Edge, according to the report.
Google Health logs an activity as a workout when a user’s heart rate exceeds a certain threshold for a certain amount of time, the report said. The exact heart-rate threshold and duration were not specified. The Fitbit app is designed to tailor automatic workout detection based on usage, as users correct auto-logged workouts and manually add activities the app did not capture. Google says the changes should produce more accurate tracking and fewer missed workout logs, according to Android Authority.
Google Health 5.11 is widely available on iOS, Android Authority reported, while the Android rollout is ongoing. After installing the update, users should see a new screen when they next open Google Health explaining the expanded automatic tracking. Google’s official changelog also mentions new Health Guardian features, which Android Authority described as potentially confusing.
The expanded detection arrives ahead of the Fitbit Edge, Google’s latest fitness wearable, which is scheduled to go on sale Tuesday, Oct. 27. The device will ship with the improved workout detection, according to the report.
