Google Home and Nest devices hit by worldwide outage

A global server-side outage is affecting Google Home and Nest devices, with displays stuck on loading screens and automations failing. Users report issues across various devices.

The outage appears to impact a broad range of hardware, including Nest Hubs, Google Home Mini and Nest Mini speakers, and third-party smart displays with Google Assistant built in. Affected displays either show a blank white screen or a spinning loading wheel whenever a user gives a voice prompt or touches the screen.

Android Authority notes that common troubleshooting steps, such as rebooting devices or performing a factory reset, currently do not resolve the issue. Users are being advised to wait for a server-side fix from Google.

Earlier in August, Google released a fresh Google Home update that introduced new features for smart home setups. That update caused a bug for iOS users where smart lights turned on automatically, but Google quickly fixed it. The current outage is significantly more widespread, affecting users worldwide.
