Google Home Color Control Fails for Smart Lights From Multiple Brands

Google Home failed to change smart light colors from multiple brands on Oct. 6, 2026; power and brightness worked.

The issue was raised in a post on the Google Home subreddit by user baddebate, who said Google Home could not change the colors of their smart lights. The failure occurred when trying to control the lights directly through the Google Home app and when using voice commands through a Nest Hub smart display. Google Home routines that change light colors also appeared to be affected, according to the post.

About a dozen other users commented on the post to report the same problem, Android Authority reported. The publication said it tested Philips Hue lights and found that neither the Google Home app nor multiple Google Home-connected speakers could adjust their color. Turning the lights on and off and changing brightness still worked through Google Home, it said. Because the problem was on Google Home's end, users could still change light color through the manufacturers' own apps, according to the report.

The issue affected smart lights from multiple brands, Android Authority said. Google did not appear to have acknowledged the problem. The report did not say when the color-control failure began or how many users were affected.
