Google Home Motion Alerts Reportedly Fire While Users Are at Home
Google Home users reported motion alerts firing even while they were at home, in accounts compiled by Android Authority.
The accounts, gathered from a Reddit thread, describe alerts arriving repeatedly within a short span rather than in response to any activity outside the home. One user with sensors placed throughout their house shared a screenshot of multiple notifications separated by only minutes. Numerous commenters on the thread said they were running into the same problem, with the most recent report arriving about seven hours before the Android Authority article was published.
The behavior works against the usual purpose of motion alerts, which is to notify residents of suspicious activity while they are away. Instead, the notifications were reaching users as they moved around their own residences.
The original poster said about ten hours before the article appeared that the issue had resolved itself. It is unclear whether the same was true for the other users who reported the bug.
Android Authority said it had reached out to Google for comment and would update the article if new information became available. Google has not publicly acknowledged the reports, and no cause for the alerts has been given.
The motion alert reports come amid other trouble for the platform. According to Android Authority, Google is working on a fix for two other Home problems that have frustrated users, although the report did not identify them.
