Google Home Restores Smart Light Color Control After Bug Fix
Google has fixed a Google Home bug that stopped users from changing smart light colors through the app and Nest devices.
Android Authority reported on Oct. 7 that the problem was first raised in a Reddit post by user baddebate. The user said they could not change the colors of smart lights from multiple manufacturers using Google Home or Google Nest. The color selector in the Home app also failed, and their routines failed as well.
The official Google Nest Community account confirmed the fix in a comment on the original Reddit post. It did not say what caused the glitch or how it was fixed. baddebate has not confirmed whether the fix worked for them. Another user, sunnyone123, said it resolved the issue for them.
The bug was unusually specific. It did not block every Google Home function, but it stopped a basic smart lighting control. Users with lights from multiple brands were affected, according to the original report. The problem also hit Nest smart speakers and displays, which can be used to control smart home devices by voice.
Google has not publicly detailed the cause of the issue or the scope of the fix. The Nest Community confirmation indicates that a fix has been released, but it is not clear whether every affected device has received it. Android Authority reported that the fix should have addressed the glitch and expressed hope that it had now reached all devices.
The report said this was not the first time unusual bugs have appeared across Google Home and Gemini. It did not provide details about the earlier issues. The color-changing bug left many users puzzled, and the fix now appears to have resolved the problem for at least one affected user.
