Google Introduces Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 Wearable Between Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch

Google unveiled the $179.99 Fitbit Edge, a wearable between Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch, with preorders open ahead of October 27.

The Fitbit Edge combines the Fitbit Air's slim band with an OLED display. According to TechCrunch, the screen can show map directions, notifications, weather, and music controls.

Like the Pixel Watch and Fitbit Air, the Edge works with Google Health Coach, which is powered by Gemini. Use of the coach requires a Google Health Premium subscription. The feature can use fitness, health, and medical information to create weekly routines and workout plans, then adjust those plans around a user's schedule.

The device also includes Google's Health Guardian feature, designed to identify notable changes in health measurements over time, including indicators related to blood pressure and insulin resistance. Google announced those features at the Pixel Watch 5 launch in August.

Google says the Fitbit Edge can automatically recognize and log up to 100 activities, including runs, bike rides, and walks. The company says it uses context from a user's movement to determine what the user is doing and add it to weekly goals. The wearable supports more than 50 exercise modes and can provide on-screen prompts during workouts, such as a prompt to push harder or take a breather.

Google claims the Fitbit Edge's built-in GPS is 40% more accurate than the previous generation, which it says should make tracking outdoor runs easier. Sleep-stage detection is also 15% more accurate than on earlier generations, according to the company, allowing the device to provide better sleep summaries and coaching tips.

The battery is rated for up to seven days on a charge, and the wearable is water-resistant to 50 meters. It comes in Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon color choices. A Stephen Curry Special Edition is priced at $219.99.
