Google Is Working on Focus Peaking for Snapseed's Camera, Android Authority Reports

Android Authority reports Google is developing a Focus Peaking feature for Snapseed's camera that would highlight in-focus areas in the viewfinder. The latest app version also adds HaldCLUT support for LUT workflows.

Android Authority said it found evidence of Focus Peaking in Snapseed version 4.1.10.992428248 and enabled it with some tinkering. Once the feature is released, a new “Focus Peaking” toggle is expected to appear within the app’s camera settings, according to the report. Users would be able to turn it on or off, and it would highlight in-focus areas using the theme color selected for the app.

Focus Peaking is a tool commonly found in professional cameras and several smartphone camera apps. It highlights the in-focus details of a subject to help users set manual focus accurately before capturing a photo or recording a video. The function can be especially useful for shots that require focus to be precisely locked in.

The latest Snapseed update also continues to improve LUT workflows with support for HaldCLUT. Android Authority said HaldCLUT support is already available in the current version of the app. Focus Peaking, however, remains a work in progress. Although the publication managed to get the toggle to appear, the feature itself did not work at all.

Snapseed has received several updates since Google released version 4.0 earlier this year. The app supports LUTs for editing RAW photos in beta, and it could soon get an extensive collage-making tool in a future release. The Snapseed camera already includes pro controls, grid lines, and filters. Google is working on more features, according to the report.

Android Authority said users will likely have to wait for Google to finish developing Focus Peaking and roll it out in an upcoming update. The report did not say when that update might arrive.
