Google Maps and Waze to Show Live UK Fuel Prices
Google has added live UK petrol and diesel prices to Google Maps and Waze, drawing on the government's Fuel Finder service. Prices appear in searches and station listings, and forecourts must update changes within 30 minutes.
The data is pulled directly from the UK government's Fuel Finder service, which launched in March 2026 and already reports petrol and diesel prices to a range of online portals. Under UK rules, garage forecourts must add their latest prices to the Fuel Finder database within 30 minutes of changing them. Google said that if prices are not up to date, they will not be displayed.
“Accuracy is very important, so we will still show the petrol station and where it is, but you'll only see a price if we have high confidence that it's the right price,” Sarah-Jayne Williams, director of product partnerships for Google Maps and Waze, told the BBC.
Using the feature requires no special steps. A search for “petrol” or “fuel” in Google Maps or Waze returns a list of nearby stations with current pricing. The same prices also appear on individual forecourt listing pages.
According to the government, Fuel Finder has the potential to save car owners an average of £40 a year. The government's reasoning is that competition between petrol stations will increase when drivers can easily compare prices, which could drive down fuel costs. The article said that with ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Iran, pressure on oil prices remains high, making it difficult for garages to do anything about increasing costs at the pump, and there is no sign of a slowdown or reversal yet.
Apple Maps does not yet offer a similar feature, though Google Maps and Waze are available on iOS. Drivers without those apps can check fuel prices on PetrolPrices.com and Confused.com, the article said.
