Google Maps Update Shows Stop Signs, Traffic Lights on Android Auto

Android Authority reported, citing 9to5Google, that Google Maps in Android Auto can now show traffic lights and stop signs coming up along a route. The new display differs from the way the app previously handled such information. Earlier, traffic lights and stop signs appeared as static symbols on the map surface. Those symbols were helpful, according to the report, but they were not very noticeable.

With the update, Google Maps is starting to show drivers traffic lights or stop signs that may be coming up at the next turn or elsewhere along their route. The indicators appear alongside other information, such as the name of the street the driver needs to turn onto. Android Authority said this placement could make it easier for drivers to slow down in preparation for an upcoming stop sign.

The floating traffic light and stop sign indicators are also starting to show up while navigating on a smartphone, according to the report.
