Google May Add Direct Launch Shortcuts for Snapseed Camera

Google may add faster ways to launch Snapseed’s camera, including a power-button double press and a Quick Settings tile.

At present, Android Authority reported, users must either open Snapseed and then launch the camera, or tap and hold the app icon and select the camera from the app actions. The report said Google may remove those extra steps as part of an effort to make the camera easier to reach.

According to the report, Google could add several direct launch methods. These include physical controls, such as double-pressing the power button, a dedicated Quick Settings tile for Snapseed’s camera, and an option to add the camera as a lock-screen icon. The outlet described the changes as possible additions, not confirmed features.

The camera shortcuts would follow a major redesign of Snapseed earlier this year. Android Authority reported that Google has been working to add several features to the Android app, including support for editing RAW images with LUTs, improved collage-making tools and a feature similar to Google Photos’ Magic Eraser. The report said Snapseed’s camera has either received or should soon receive upgrades ranging from grid lines to focus peeking.

Android Authority did not say when the new launch methods might arrive. The report also did not indicate whether Google has committed to releasing them. The existing launch process remains in place for now, and the proposed shortcuts are described only as possibilities.
