Google Meet Adds Gemini-Powered Speech Translation in 63 Languages

Google Meet rolls out Gemini speech translation for 63 languages, covering audio and captions for individual users.

In a Workspace blog post cited by Android Authority, Google said users can turn on speech translation for themselves in their preferred language at any point in a meeting through a dedicated translation control in the meeting toolbar. Once enabled, Meet automatically detects the language being spoken and translates it for that user, both audibly and in captions.

Google described the translation as taking place in “near real-time.” The feature is designed for individual participants rather than changing the meeting for everyone, according to the report. Android Authority said the rollout starts today for some eligible users, but the report did not list the 63 languages or detail the full eligibility criteria.

The addition extends Google’s use of Gemini in Workspace products and targets multilingual teams that need to follow meetings in their own language. The feature is available on web and mobile devices, according to the report.
