Google Messages bug resurfaces old texts and sends them to wrong recipients
Google Messages users report a bug that pulls old texts from unrelated chats and sends them with new messages, raising privacy concerns.
Users on Reddit describe starting a new conversation only to have Messages insert a message from a completely different chat, sometimes from months or even years ago. In some cases, the stray text appears alongside a photo or group message. In others, users say the old message actually reaches the wrong person.
The reports span multiple Pixel and Samsung phones, suggesting the issue is not limited to a single device model. The bug comes amid a recent run of problems for Google Messages, including broken RCS messaging and conversations splitting into multiple threads.
Google has not yet publicly commented on the issue. The reports raise serious privacy concerns, as old messages may contain sensitive information that could be delivered to unintended contacts.
