Google Messages group chat invite links appear close to rollout after beta test

Android Authority reports Google Messages group chat invite links now work in a beta build, suggesting the feature could launch soon.

The outlet first spotted the feature in development in May 2025. At that time it was incomplete and remains inaccessible by default, but testing in the latest beta shows the system now works, allowing users to generate working invite links.

Once rolled out, users will be able to share text links or QR codes to let others join group chats. An "Invite via link" option will appear in settings for each group chat, with a toggle to turn link sharing on and off.

The settings view will offer options to copy the group chat link, forward it inside Messages, or share it to other apps. Messages can also generate a QR code. Invite links and QR codes will automatically reset every 30 days, and chat members can manually reset them at any time.

Group chats will indicate when invite links are active, with an inline notification containing a link to invite settings. Android Authority also saw what joining a group chat via an invite link looks like.

The publication previously speculated the feature could roll out "in the coming weeks" when it was discovered last year, but that did not happen. With the system now seemingly functional, Google could release it at any time, the report said.
