Google Messages rolls out Content Credentials to reveal AI-edited media
Google Messages now lets Android users inspect the editing history of photos, videos and audio, including whether AI tools were involved, according to Android Authority.
The feature, previously spotted in development, gives compatible media a digital history. Instead of wondering whether a suspicious image was taken with a camera, heavily edited, or generated with AI, users can now view some of that information directly within the Messages app.
To access the information, users can press and hold on supported media, tap Info, then look for the How this was made section to see its origin and editing history.
The feature is currently Android-only. Android Authority stressed that Content Credentials do not tell users whether something is real or fake. The credentials only show the history attached to a file, and media without such credentials will not provide any relevant information.
