Google Photos halves trash recovery window for backed-up photos to 30 days
Google Photos is halving trash recovery to 30 days for backed-up photos, and Android users are being notified.
Last month, Android Authority said it spotted signs that Google Photos was preparing to impose a 30-day limit on deleted photos. Previously, users who backed up an image with Google Photos and later sent it to trash had a 60-day window before the photo was permanently deleted. Photos stored only on a device were already subject to a 30-day window.
The change means backed-up photos that are trashed will now be permanently removed after 30 days, giving users half as much time to change their mind and restore a deleted image. Android users are only beginning to receive notifications in the Photos app about the updated policy, according to the report.
