Google Photos on Android finally adds manual photo stacking, report says

Android Google Photos users can now manually stack photos, a feature iOS got in May 2025, per Android Authority.

The tech outlet said it first spotted the option on a Pixel 11 Pro running Google Photos version 7.90.0.973970263 and on a Pixel 11 Pro XL with version 7.91.0.973540846. The feature was not yet available on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra running version 7.90.0.971743778, suggesting that Google is rolling it out gradually via a server-side update.

Google Photos has long automatically grouped similar-looking pictures into stacks to help clean up the library. Manual stacking, however, allows users to take control of that organization process by selecting any images they want and grouping them into a single stack. On Android, the steps mirror the iOS version: press and hold the pictures you wish to stack, swipe left on the pop-up bar, and tap "Stack photos." The selected photos then appear together under one icon in the library.

Android Authority noted that Google has made no official announcement about the feature arriving on Android, making it easy to miss. Users who do not yet see the option are advised to check the Play Store for updates and then wait if it is still absent, as server-side rollouts can take time.
