Google Pixel phones may get a redesigned lock screen customization page
Android Authority says it found a new lock screen customization page in the Wallpaper & Style app on the first Android 17 QPR3 beta, with buttons for wallpapers, colors, the clock, widgets and a new "media" option.
The page is largely blank in the build the publication examined, and Android Authority said it expects the lock screen preview to be displayed in that area. Five buttons sit at the bottom of the screen, covering wallpapers, colors, the clock, widgets and "media."
Media is the only category not present in the existing menu. Android Authority said it could not find further details about that option in the app and speculated that it may relate to media playback on the lock screen.
Pixel owners currently customize the lock screen by swiping between the lock screen and home screen inside the Wallpaper & Style app. On the lock screen side, the present menu offers options for the clock, shortcuts such as Now Playing and Google Wallet, lock screen notifications and a "More lock screen settings" entry that opens a longer list of settings. Google has long offered the Wallpaper & Style app on its Pixel phones as a way to adjust the look and feel of the interface, with those options extending to the lock screen.
Android Authority said it is unclear whether the new page will replace the current customization menu. The publication added that it hoped the company would deliver a more capable and intuitive lock screen customization page rather than a user interface change made for its own sake. The interface was found in a beta release, and the report did not indicate when, or whether, it might reach users.
