Google Releases Android 17 QPR 3 Beta 1 for Pixel 6a Through Pixel 11
Google released the first Android 17 QPR 3 beta for Pixel 6a through Pixel 11 devices, with a long list of fixes.
The release arrived hours before the weekend, days after Google shipped Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1. The announcement listed bug fixes but no new features, and Android Authority described the release as still developing.
Google listed fixes for audio output that could not be switched while playing audio from apps without active media controls, and for crashes when an app started a foreground service from a Quick Settings tile. App menus displayed icons with excessive spacing, and app previews failed to appear on the recent apps screen. On Android 16, the NFC service crashed with a DeadObjectException and stopped detecting tags after the initial scan. Devices froze and became unresponsive when unlocked with the fingerprint sensor, and the Settings app crashed when users selected the option in Face Unlock requiring eyes to be open.
Other fixes address MediaPlayer crashes when handling non-ASCII audio attribute tags, apps that froze and triggered application-not-responding errors when launched, and a camera feed rotated 90 degrees when video calling apps ran on an external display in desktop mode. Google also addressed interface problems when navigating back to the home screen from an app, an unexpected dot on the Mobile Data icon in Quick Settings, and a front camera that failed to function while screen recording was active.
Calling apps crashed with a ForegroundServiceStartNotAllowedException when handling calls immediately after a device reboot, and eSIM profiles could not be enabled, silently reverting to off in Settings. The update also targets excessive idle battery drain when Flip to Shh is enabled and a Settings crash when opening battery settings.
Bluetooth audio stopped on active LHDC v5 devices when a second connected device disconnected. A com.android.phone crash loop could cause a complete loss of cellular service when the modem reported unexpected SIM slot indices, and Wi-Fi failed to reconnect automatically during background wakes when hardware PNO scans failed or were unsupported.
Google did not say when the beta would end or what else the quarterly release will contain.
