Google Rolls Out Gemini 3.8 TTS Voice Cloning and Adds Notebooks to Docs
Google is rolling out Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS with custom voices, 30-second voice replication and expressive controls. It also now lets Gemini in Google Docs use Gemini Notebooks as a grounded context source with inline citations.
The TTS models are Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS. Google says Flash TTS can create an original voice from a natural-language description, support more than 100 languages and dialects, and offer more than 2,000 production-ready voices. Voice replication can recreate a consistent voice from a 30-second sample, provided the user has permission. The model can also control accents, pacing, emotion and two-speaker dialogue.
The new TTS models are reaching Gemini Notebook and Google Vids, and are available to developers through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API. Android Authority reported that Google spent weeks expanding Gemini 3.8 from the original Gemini 3.8 Flash into new Live and Live Extended Thinking models, and now wants the same family to act the part with TTS. The problem being addressed is that AI voiceovers can read a script, but getting them to perform it with the right accent, pacing, emotion, pauses and even the occasional sigh is another matter.
In a separate Google Docs update, Gemini can now draw information from curated Gemini Notebooks. Once research is organized in a Notebook, users can add it as a source in Docs, and Gemini will draw information from it when writing. Google says this grounds Gemini's responses in selected research. The feature also provides inline citations when drafting documents in Google Docs, so users can verify facts without switching tabs. Google announced that Gemini Notebooks can now be used as a context source in Google Docs.
Gemini in Google Docs already could create audio summaries of long documents, add images, charts and diagrams, and write in a user's tone across documents. The Notebook integration extends those abilities by tying drafts to a user-selected research set. Android Authority reported the feature as closing the gap between Gemini Notebooks and Docs.
