Google rolls out September Android Drop with Gemini-powered features

Users on Android 16 and later will be able to ask Gemini to remember where they put items such as a passport, and the location will be saved in Find Hub, Google said. The feature, coming to countries where Gemini and Find Hub are supported, does not require a tracker tag. Users can add a photo, and the recorded items will appear in a new "Remembered" tab in Find Hub, where they can also be checked manually.

Motion Assist, designed for Android 17, adds a transparent overlay with bubbles that move in response to a vehicle's motion, helping bridge the gap between what users see and the movement they feel, according to Google. It is similar to Apple's Vehicle Motion Cues, introduced in 2024. Users can customize the bubbles' shape, color and opacity, and choose whether it activates automatically or via Quick Settings.

For accessibility, Google introduced Guided Vision, which uses the camera in Gemini Live to help people read small print on labels, view menus in dark restaurants, or locate household objects. If the camera is not aligned, voice feedback tells the user to reframe, pan, or center the object. The feature is coming to devices running Android 9 or newer in countries where Gemini is available, and can be launched from Accessibility shortcuts or the TalkBack menu.

Google Messages is also getting two updates. Chat Themes let users choose a background image or color for each conversation, and the text bubbles automatically match. Google Keep integration, available from today, lets participants in a chat share and edit notes such as grocery lists or vacation plans directly in the conversation.

Separately, Android Authority reported that Google has begun rolling out Battery Usage Summaries to Pixel 10 and later devices. The feature, first spotted under development earlier this month, appears atop the Battery usage page and flags unusual drain while identifying the largest power consumers, such as WhatsApp and Google. According to the report, Gemini Nano generates the summaries on-device, and the feature is enabled automatically with the latest AI Core.

In its monthly AI roundup, Google said it had released Gemini 3.7 Flash, a coding and agent-focused model priced at half the cost of the earlier Gemini 3.6 Flash per million tokens. The company also highlighted the Pixel 11 series, announced at Made by Google 2026, which uses the Tensor G6 chip to run Gemini Nano. Google said its Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly users, making it the fastest-growing product in company history, and that it now generates more than 150 million images daily. Other August announcements include the Gemini 3.5 Transcribe speech-to-text model, Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash for video generation, and new productivity features in Gemini Live.
