Android foldables have spent years getting the hardware right, but the app problem has been harder to shake. Some Android apps still have not properly adapted to foldable devices, Android Authority reported. Google says the developers behind those apps are either working on improvements or are already in conversations with the company.

Samat spoke to Tom’s Guide about the state of foldable software. According to Android Authority’s account of the interview, he said developers see more value in investing in foldables as the form factor becomes more popular. He also acknowledged that some apps still have not made the transition, adding that their developers are either working on it or already talking with Google.

Apple’s iPhone Duo could help change that dynamic. Android Authority reported that the device could expand the foldable audience enough to encourage better app experiences across both iOS and Android. In that view, Apple’s arrival with the iPhone Duo could finally give developers another reason to take foldable layouts seriously. Google’s Android boss thinks Android users could benefit too.

The issue matters because foldable hardware has matured faster than the software built for it. Android Authority said some apps still have not properly adapted to the larger screens that foldables offer, even as Google and developers work on fixes. If Apple’s iPhone Duo brings more users to the form factor, developers may have a stronger incentive to make their apps work well on foldable displays.
