Google's Googlebook 'Look up' app leaks on Play Store, gets pulled

Google briefly put its upcoming Googlebook app Look up on the Play Store before removing it; it can still be sideloaded on Android 17 devices.

The outlet said it obtained the app on several Pixel phones, though direct installation from the Play Store listing is no longer possible. Look up is designed to instantly answer questions based on highlighted text and also includes a conventional chatbot interface for follow-up questions.

The appearance appears to have been accidental, with the Play Store page pushed live ahead of schedule before screenshots and other details were scrubbed. This is not the first Googlebook app to surface; earlier, a camera app for the platform was spotted.

Googlebook is Google's flagship laptop platform, described as combining the best aspects of Chrome OS and Android. The first set of Googlebook devices is expected to arrive in the fall.
