Google Says Fix Is Coming for Nest Doorbell Accent Bug

The glitch surfaced earlier in the week among owners using their doorbells outside the United States. Devices that had been configured to speak in a local accent began switching back to a US tone, Android Authority reported. The doorbells otherwise appeared to keep working normally.

Users had already floated workarounds on their own, including temporarily adding US English as a second language on the device. Until Tuesday, Google had not responded publicly to the reports.

The acknowledgment came in a comment from a company representative in one of the original Reddit threads. "Our team is aware of the issue and is actively working on a fix," the representative wrote. "We'll circle back here when the fix has rolled out. Thanks for your patience."

As of Android Authority's report, that comment remained Google's latest public statement on the matter, meaning the fix had not yet been released. No timeline for the rollout was given.

The problem is limited in scope: aside from the accent, the affected doorbells continued to operate, and Google's message did not describe a cause or say how many devices were involved. Android Authority noted that hearing a language such as French delivered in a standard American accent is an unusual enough result that owners will welcome the correction once it arrives.

The outlet said it would continue to track the issue and report when Google's fix becomes available for deployment.
