Google Sheets now supports full Google Fonts library, improving Excel compatibility

The additional fonts are available for chart titles and subtitles, horizontal and vertical axis titles and labels, data labels, and legend text. To access them, users can select "More fonts" from any font dropdown in the chart editor sidebar, then search for, add, and apply the new fonts.

Google says the change enhances font compatibility across Sheets and Microsoft Excel. Previously, importing Excel files with unsupported fonts could result in missing or fallback font substitutions; with this update, users will run into that issue far less often.

The current update follows a Sheets update last month that preserved formatting and structural information when importing Excel files. Google has begun the rapid release and is taking a gradual approach; according to Android Authority, it may take up to 15 days for the feature to become visible.
